Fun Ways to Spend Your Summer

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on fun activities inside too! This coming summer, why not try some fun with these DIY projects at home? Whether you’re a crafty gal or just looking for something to do on a hot day, these projects are sure to keep you entertained and busy!

Make Your Popsicle Holders

A large bowl or container, popsicle sticks, hot glue, and a painter’s masking tape. Cut circles out of the masking tape to fit the diameter of your container and stick it on using hot glue. Stick a popsicle stick into each circle and enjoy your homemade popsicles!

Create Custom Coasters Out of Old Picture Frames

Remove the glass and then sand the edges so that they’re smooth. Paint them any color you like and then use wood glue to attach them to some old boards. You could also use cute fabric squares as coaster inserts!

Turn an Old Dresser Into a Beautiful Vanity Table

You can turn your ancient armoire into a gorgeous table by painting it white and adding some decorative mirrors. Add some pretty wall art to spruce up the look or go with something more minimal.

Converting Your Door Into an Inviting Entryway

Transform an ordinary door into a beautiful entryway by installing new hinges and hardware, then painting it bright yellow or coral. Add throw pillows for added warmth and personality or go for something more subtle.

Installing New Floorings

There are so many beautiful options available these days, from wood to porcelain tiles. Just be sure to pick the right type of flooring for the space you’re working where most floors can be covered in carpet.

Upgrading Your Old Furniture

Rebuild old furniture into something new and fabulous by painting it white or adding a splash of colour. You could also try reupholstering it with some interesting fabric choices.

Building a Beautiful Garden

Create an artificial garden using simple items you likely already have around the house: empty bird feeders, planters filled with fake flowers or succulents, and PVC pipe or hoses.

How to Do Each Project

If you’re looking for something fun and fabulous to do at home this summer, check out these DIY projects! They’re all easy to do and will add a little extra pizzazz to your home.

Colourful Sunburst Curtain

This project is perfect for summertime! All you need are some colourful fabric strips, a sewing machine, and a few supplies from the craft store. First, cut the fabric strips into desired lengths. Then, sew the strips together along one long edge, making sure to leave a 1-inch border on all sides. Finally, turn the curtain right side out and hang it up in your window!

Personalized Phone Cases

If you’re someone who likes to change up your phone case often, then this project is perfect for you! All you need is some scrapbook paper, some stickers or decals, and a printer. First, print out your desired design onto scrapbook paper. Then, use the stickers or decals to affix the design to your phone case. Be sure to personalize each case uniquely!

Custom Curtain Rod

This is a great project for those with some basic sewing skills. All you need is a piece of fabric that measures the desired length of your curtain rod, plus an inch or so for the seam allowance. You can then sew the fabric together along one long edge, making sure to leave a 1-inch border on all sides.

Then, use a hemming tape measure to make sure the finished curtain rod measures exactly the desired length, with an inch or so of seam allowance. Finish by pressing the fabric down along one edge and folding over the excess fabric, creating a nice finish.

Painting Your Picture Frame

If you’re feeling crafty but don’t want to sew anything up, painting your picture frame is another great option! All you need are some wood screws and nails or screws and adhesive, white paint for the background, and any pictures you want to put in it or prints of them.

Start by measuring out where you want your picture frame to go on the wall, then start painting the wall behind it black. This will be the background of your frame. Once that’s dry, take your pictures and screw them into place onto the black background, making sure to leave a little space around each one so that the white paint can show through. Finish by painting the frame white and letting it dry.
